Terms of Service
Last updated September 2026
By using Biotadex, you agree to these Terms of Service and to the Community Rules, which form part of these terms.
ELIGIBILITY
You must be at least 13 years old to use Biotadex.
ACCEPTABLE USE
Biotadex is for personal, non-commercial species discovery. You agree not to abuse the identification system, manipulate leaderboards or sanctuary holdings, submit photographs that are not your own, operate multiple accounts to gain advantage, or harass other users.
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. You agree not to post content that is hateful, threatening, sexually explicit, or that targets or endangers another person, and not to behave abusively toward other collectors. You can report any content or person from the item itself, and you can block anyone. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours, and content or accounts in breach are removed.
YOUR CONTENT
Photographs you submit remain yours. By submitting them you grant us a licence to process them for identification, to display them in your collection and public profile, and to show them to other collectors for community verification.
You confirm that you took the photographs you submit, or have the right to submit them.
ENFORCEMENT
We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms or the Community Rules. Serious violations — sexual content involving minors, credible threats, or targeted hate — result in immediate and permanent removal, without warning, and may be reported to the authorities.
Points, ranks, badges, and sanctuary holdings have no monetary value and may be adjusted or removed where they were obtained in breach of these terms.
ACCURACY AND SAFETY
Identifications are AI-assisted and are frequently wrong, particularly for lookalike species. Do not rely on Biotadex for any safety-critical decision — in particular, never use it to decide whether a fungus, plant, or animal is safe to touch or eat. Nothing in Biotadex is safety, medical, foraging, navigational, or legal advice.
PLAYING OUTDOORS
Biotadex is played in the physical world, and you play it at your own risk. You are responsible for your own safety, for anyone you bring with you, and for judging whether a place, a route, the weather, the time of day, or an animal is safe to approach. Points, streaks, timed events, and sanctuary claims are game mechanics — they are never a reason to enter somewhere unsafe, go out unprepared, stay out after dark without a light and a plan, or continue when conditions turn. Keep your attention on your surroundings rather than on the screen.
LOCAL RULES
You are responsible for knowing and following the rules of wherever you are: opening hours, access and trail closures, private property, permits, noise ordinances, fire bans, group-size limits, and any restrictions on photography, flash, or drones. These differ by site and change without notice. Organised group play must not obstruct, crowd, or disturb other visitors, residents, or wildlife.
WILDLIFE
Observe from a distance. Do not bait, chase, trap, handle, or disturb wildlife, and do not damage habitat, to obtain a photograph. Do not disclose the location of species vulnerable to poaching or collection. Read local wildlife guidance before you go — the correct response to an encounter differs by species and by region.
MODIFICATIONS
We may update these terms. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
